MAGH MELA 2020 INDIA(PRAYAGRAJ)

Magh mela, also spelled Magha mela, is an annual festival with fairs held in the month of Magha (January/February) near river banks. About every twelve years, Magha melas coincide with what is believed by faithful as an astrologically auspicious position of Jupiter, sun and moon, and these are called the Kumbh Mela such as the one at Allahabad (officially, Prayagraj).



The religious basis for the Magh Mela is the belief that pilgrimage is a means for prāyaścitta (atonement, penance) for past mistakes, the effort cleanses them of sins and that bathing in holy rivers at these festivals has a salvific value, moksha – a means to liberation from the cycle of rebirths (samsara). These festivals are "great cultural fairs" which brings people together, tying them with a shared thread of religious devotion, with an attendant bustle of commerce, trade and secular entertainment.

Various local marketers sell handmade Eco-friendly goods like- wooden flute, bangels, utensils, show pieces, pen stands, hair brush, brush etc. Various local entertainment program for free are organized for public. People from different part of India come to sell their products in exhibitions. number of Exhibitions are organized all based on different themes most of the product sold their are eco-friendly although their are shops selling plastic product.


From small safety pins to all kind of accessories you can possibly imagine are sold by the local marketers. 


Eco-friendly and 100% Biodegradable products of clothing especially "khadi", jute handbag, wooden footwear "paduka"; clay&wooden utensils(pots, cups, plate, spoons); wooden & clay decorating pieces all are available their.


Mouth watering Indian cuisines are also sold from fulki, chat, dhosa, idli, chola, Indian thali to Indo-chines.

The Magha Mela festival is mentioned in the Mahabharata and in many major Puranas. The Magh Mela is a part of the river festivals that follow the transition of Jupiter into various zodiac signs. These river festivals – called Pushkaram (or Pushkaralu) – rotate over the year to ghats and temples along the major rivers of India, each revered as a sacred river goddess. They include the ritual bathing as well as prayers to ancestors, religious discourses, devotional music and singing, charity, cultural programs and fairs.


Different organizations spread awareness about Ayurveda, natural herbal medicines, herbal skin care, Ganga action and schemes, flora and fauna present in Ganga, Yamuna river and history of India and veds etc. Most of them are free. You can learn so much about their culture, art and believes without spending a penny. 
Tourist visiting Prayagraj at this period of time learn so much about the culture, art and how people living their are connected to mother nature, because they worship nature. RIVERS- Gangs,Yamuna and mythical river Saraswati as goddess; PLANTS & TRESS- Tulsi, Neem, Banyan tree etc; ANIMALS- Cows, Dogs, Monkey, Snake etc. These lists are endless. Tourists can also join various schemes launched by the government regarding education, cleanness, investment, import-export of goods and services.
