CORONAVIRUS: COVID 19

We all know something or the other about Coronavirus, lets add something more than you know about it.

WHAT IS CORONAVIRUS?

COVID- 19, the outbreak occurred in Wuhan (China) from the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Coronaviridae are entire family of viruses that cause disease in mammals and birds. Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). A novel corona virus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

They are Zoonotic i.e it can transfer from animals to human. You read it right, detailed investigation found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans. Several known coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans.

HOW ONE GET INFECTED?

One can get coronavirus through contact with infected person, it is either through cough droplets, or respiratory secretion or by physically touching on a thing which contain virus on it, it could be shared pen, table, keyboard or anything.

when you come in contact with any such thing containing droplets of infected person followed by touching your nosed, mouth or eating without washing your hand, you get infected. It is not airborne disease so mere physical barrier and maintaining regular hygiene will work great to protect from getting those viruses.

MECHANISM AND AFTER EFFECTS

Coronaviruses have RNA, carrying all the information which it needs to replicate and the genetic material in the viruses is typically surrounded by a protective capsid. Once the virus comes in contact with your cell it binds to the receptor of your cells and can access to all your cell's machinery, which is reserve for your own DNA that uses ribosome to make proteins and travel to all over your body.
Coronavirus uses its own RNA to go to those ribosome and start making proteins that it wants, so basically your body start producing viruses by making the genetic material and capsid. Hence your cells become virus making machine.
These viruses eventually fill the cell and it way back to cell membrane were they break out often destroying the cell in the process.

Then your body sense interference of the foreign body and starts to trigger the immune response which is generally by increasing the temperature of your body (fever) and symptoms like headache, sore throat and dizziness coughing i.e common fever symptoms and this makes it difficult to track the coronaviruses as symptoms are so common to regular flu.

Your increased body temperature helps your immune system to work better, which make more hostile environment for the viruses. You feel weak and tired because your body prioritize to fight against the virus instead of your regular work and your bones may actually feel sore and weak as they produce WBC.

The body doesn’t catch virus right away so essentially the virus starts with upper hand that is why it can take so long to fight against the virus but the case is little different for coronaviruses as those with healthy immune system can fight against it within couple of weeks, main problem arises for those who have compromised immunity which is often to the people who are elderly or have some health issues, particularly it drastically effect to the people with age above 60 and in sever cases it may cause death but the overall percentage is low (around 2-3%) and it happens mostly to the people with age above 60 (chances rise to 10%).
Virus is not always the cause of death, after weakened immune system other organisms such as bacteria take advantage causing other complications eventually resulting in death.

IS IT A JOURNEY FROM EPIDEMIC TO PANDEMIC??

Well, don't panic! It is not yet announced as pandemic but definitely a public health emergency of international concern.
Generally severity of the disease does not account for it, rather it deals with the geographic spread, exact definition may vary but in general if a virus spread across the international boarders and around the world when the source is unknown then it is said pandemic for example-  Antonine plague. So if a infected person from China goes to America and infect the other person it is not generally called pandemic.

If you are reading this blog then you should definitely read below suggested blog because answer to the question is changed now-

PREVENTIVE MEASURES

Simple and effective prevention measures includes-

1- Regular washing your hand with soap, or use sanitizer if washing is not possible.

6 step hand washing that is cleaning your entire palm and wrist for 20-25 sec will eliminate the risk of getting infected.

Drinking alcohol will not help you but mixing alcohol of any kind (having 60-70% of alcohol in it) with alovera (optional) will give you home-made sanitizer.

2- Maintain social distance

Not only "Namaste London" rather "Namaste world", if you get me  :P
Follow Indian traditional way of greeting  "NAMASTE" as suggested and followed by PM of India and Israel (for now).

3- Practice respiratory hygiene

In first place avoid public gathering if possible. Am I suggesting you to avoid celebrating Holi this year? Absolutely not !!
Recently PM of India tweeted about dropping the plan of "holi milan samaron" a festive meeting, it was done so as to bring public awareness and to encourage people to celebrate holi just with their friends and family that it only with known community. As by doing this you avoid the chance of getting in contact with infected ones.

If you can not avoid public gathering wear mask. Regular surgical mask will work great, N95 mask is not mandatory. Make sure you properly dispose used mask.

4- Stay Updated

Make sure you listen to Legitimates organization because they aware people and provide services.
Government of India has provided 24*7 helpline center-  +91 11 2397 8046 or you can contact through email at ncov2019@gmail.com

WOMEN ON FRONT FOOT IN BOOMING OF FORENSIC SCIENCE (An international overview)

WOMEN ON FRONT FOOT IN BOOMING OF FORENSIC SCIENCE (An international overview) This is Not a feminist perspective. Shocked? Don't be, sorry boys we are not on equal ground in the field of forensics and this inequality has nothing to do with the rights provided by law. Recently an article says that women are at forefront in booming of forensic field and I can support this statement with evidence. Technological progress had a profound impact on the development of forensic analysis- from DNA typing to retinal scanning, from chemistry to physics; from genetics to entomology; from ballistics to botany development of any sort in these feild have aided somehow in forensic investigations (Forensic to other discipline:  Kabhi Kabhi Lagta hai Apun hi Bhagwan hai ). Being multi-disciplinary subject, forensic involve a wide number of scientists specializing in different disciplines and to cover continuous demand for forensic services, scientists are required to process a l

POSITIVE IMPACT OF C0VID-19 ON ENVIRONMENT Let's not be pessimistic about all the prospect of Coronavirus pandemic as from the very beginning we are taught to have a positive perspective for every negative situation. Well, what positive perspective we can draw from this pandemic?
