CORONAVIRUS AND COPPER: WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE COPPER?

CORONAVIRUS AND COPPER: WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE COPPER?

A recent clinical study have proved antibacterial properties of copper and showed why copper is far better than other common materials at preventing the spread of infectious diseases has caught the public’s attention amid the ongoing corona-virus pandemic.

India always valued copper and now modern science proving why you should too!

Relation between India and Copper

It's not surprising that during ancient times, Indian priests would store water in their copper Kamandalam and the water would remain fresh for a long time. This water is known as the Tamra Jal - Tamra in Sanskrit meaning Copper. Even now, Indians use Copper Panchpatra to perform daily rituals. According to Ayurveda, Copper helps maintain the balance between the three doshas - Vata, Kapha and Pita and also helps to delay the ageing process. This is motivation enough to get yourselves a copper water bottle!

Indians also used Brass. Brass is an alloy of Copper and Zinc. Since it has copper, it has antimicrobial properties. Brass is alkaline in nature and is oxidized or in other words becomes acidic when it comes in contact with air. This is why brass is always covered when not in use.

Modern Science Finding: Why you should have Copper?

The National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Princeton University reported in The New England Journal of Medicine this week that COVID-19 was “detectable in aerosols for up to three hours, up to four hours on copper, up to 24 hours on cardboard and up to two to three days on plastic and stainless steel.”

Scientific explanation

The reason why corona-virus become inactive on copper much sooner than on other surfaces-
Scientifically explained by Schmidt that the copper dents the crown-shaped virus and then slowly releases ions that interact with oxygen and generate free radicals, or uncharged molecules that typically are highly reactive. Those free radicals create a figurative grenade that goes off and destroys the virus’ RNA.
